Transportation
Saint-Etienne offers several transportation options to help you get around the city and its surroundings. Here are some modes of transportation available in Saint-Etienne:
BUS
The city has an extensive bus network operated by Société de Transports de l'Agglomération Stéphanoise (STAS). Buses cover various routes within the city and connect different neighborhoods.
You can check the schedules and plan your journey using the STAS website and the Moovizy app. Getting around in Saint-Étienne by bus is generally convenient and straightforward.
You can purchase tickets directly from the bus driver when you board the bus. It's recommended to have cash on hand in smaller denominations, as exact change may be required. Alternatively, you can also buy tickets in advance from designated STAS ticket offices or vending machines.

TRAM
Saint-Etienne has a tram system that provides convenient transportation throughout the city. The tram lines connect key areas, including the city center, train station, and major landmarks. Trams generally operate from early morning until late evening.

Tram T2 direction “Cité du Design” or Tram T3 direction Bellevue, stop Jean Moulin, then bus M6, stop IUT de Saint-Etienne (about 30min)
Bus M4 direction Bellevue, stop Faculté des Sciences et Techniques (about 20 min + 13 min walk)
Bus M2 Gare Firminy direction Métare, stop Fraissinette
You can also buy tickets from designated STAS ticket offices or vending machines. You can't buy tickets in the tram, however, you can pay directly with your cerdit card.
BICYCLE
The city promotes cycling with its bike-sharing system called Vélivert. You can rent bicycles from various stations throughout the city and enjoy biking along dedicated bike lanes and paths. This is a great option for short trips or exploring the city at your own pace.

TAXIS/ CARS
Taxis and renting cars are also available in Saint-Etienne. You can book them online or find them in the city. Uber is also available.
Please keep in mind that many places in the city center of Saint-Etienne can be easily reached by foot. With its compact size and pedestrian-friendly infrastructure, walking is a convenient and enjoyable way to get around the city.
