Course topics

A geological map is a scientific support (paper or digital map) that uses graphic symbols to represent spatial relationships between geographical and geological features. The interpretation of geological maps is basically an attempt to visualize and understand shapes of rocks units in the subsurface. The purpose of this teaching is to provide guidelines for the interpretation of geological maps. For this, we will work on maps (scale 1 / 50,000) of areas in France showing characteristic geological structures. From this we will discuss the geological history of France, but also areas outside France based on student choice.
