Learning objectives
Vacuum technology and fluid mechanics part
- Determine and control the characteristics of a hydraulic, aeraulic and vacuum system.
- Make the link between the different quantities of flow, speed, flow rate, pressure, viscosity.
- Understand the principle of a vacuum pump and its operating.
Sensors study part
- Position and proximity sensors
- Current loop sensors
Course topics
- Vacuum technology : Introduction to vacuum technology.
- Low pressure properties (SI units and use units) ; vacuum production (volume, surface desorption) , identification of modes regarding to the pressure drop curve ; different ways of pumping, low pressure measurement ; leak detection, head losses.
Fluid mechanics part
- General remarks on fluids ; static incompressible fluids, perfect and real fluid dynamics, viscosity, characteristics of pumps.
- Pressure, speed, flow, viscosity measurements.
Sensors study part
- Voltage and current measurements, sensors characteristics and properties.

Assessment
- Practical assessment session.
Entry requirements
- General knowledge of first year (mathematics, computer literacy…).
