Acoustics & vibrations lab

Acoustics & vibrations lab

ECTS: 4
Department: MP
Degree level: 2nd year of Bachelor
Hours: 21h (6x3,5h)
Instructor: Laure PETIT

Learning objectives

Work on the mechanical and acoustic vibrations of a system:

  • know the sensors;
  • choose the signal acquisition and processing parameters;
  • display spectrum;
  • use a sound level meter or a microphone in order to work on a sound (sound level, frequencies);
  • carry on vibration measurements with different sensors in order to determine the mechanical characteristics of a system (Young's modulus, modes);
  • calculate regulatory indicators.

Course topics

Sensors, signal acquisition and processing in acoustics and vibrations

  • Sensors : microphone, accelerometer, impact hammer.
  • Signal acquisition and processing : octave, FFT, several software.
